Three Cost Effective Ways to Restore a Cracked Pool

Restore a Cracked Pool

A cracked pool can be both frustrating and annoying for a number of different reasons. Most of the time, the crack is due to a shift in the Earth, and can be completely unexpected. Although the crack may not cause any leak, it still can’t be left unattended. Left alone, it will worsen over time, resulting in a crack when you’re not expecting it.

Therefore, the best thing to do is to deal with the crack as soon as possible. Annoying, yes, but here are three cost effective ways to go about it.

Dry Fixing

One way to go about fixing the crack is to drain all of the water out of the pool. Before doing this, allow it to sit for around a week without being treated. Once drained, use a towel to dry the area both in and around the crack. Make sure to clear away any dirt or foreign material that may have rested there during the drainage.

Once dry, fill the crack with epoxy material. Push it into the space so that it fits perfectly, leaving no holes or exposed areas. Once done, dust it with silica sand and leave it overnight to cure.

Underwater Fixing

If you don’t want to, or can’t, drain the pool prior to fixing the crack, you can still fix it underwater. Use a dye syringe to locate the crack. Once the dye is released in the water, it will move to the location of the area that needs to be fixed. You may want to wear goggles and dive underwater to get the most accuracy. Once you’ve found the exact location, you can fill it in with salient. Again, make sure not to leave any holes. Once done, allow it to cure overnight.

Call a Professional

There’s no need to try and do things on your own. If you have the skills, by all means. But if not, it can be a lot more efficient to simply call a professional. Shop around beforehand and look into different reputable companies. Compare prices until you’ve found somewhere that you’re happy with.

However, if you don’t want to, you can always simply ask for advice. Speak to the shop assistant while buying your materials, they are sure to be able to help you out and tell you the most convenient way to go about repairing the crack.

Although a cracked pool can be eternally frustrating, fixing it will ease the stress. To make sure that you don’t need to worry about it again, it’s important that you do the best job possible. Do some research into the best materials for the job before making any decisions. Talk to an expert, and choose the best, most convenient way to repair the crack.
